Christ Episcopal Church Cordele
Overview
Christ Episcopal Church in Cordele, Georgia, traces its history to February 14, 1897, when Bishop Nelson consecrated it. The church building now sits at its third location after surviving two moves. It has been located at 408 S First Street, in Cordele’s Historic District, since 1952.
Christ Church includes the church, vicarage, a parish hall, and a lot adjacent to the church and vicarage for additional parking or outside events. A Memorial Garden for meditation and the interment of ashes for parishioners and their family members is located between the church and the vicarage.
The congregation embraces the past and looks to the future. The interior of the church features the handmade pews, installed in 1897. The altar, brass altar cross, and two flower vases, dating pre-1924, are still in use. The church does, however, have air conditioning and heating!
